Gunter's Logic 5 Years Later.

Dragonfly Delight by Graffiti Paintbar  Five years! I can't believe that five years ago I was in the library just typing to whatever was on my mind to now having a blog with over 40,000 views! I must say that I have changed a lot over the past five years and as the years have gone by I take pride in what this blog has become to the readers. In this post I want to break down my other posts and what I was going through when writing them. This is somewhat over an overview on my blog, but I will hopefully be writing new posts in the near future.  Willy Wonka and other analytic pieces. My very first post (and 25,000 views) comes from comparing Willy Wonka's main characters and the seven deadly sins. I was discussing with a friend how both topics correlated to some degree, but since I could not find any concrete comparison online, I decided to make my own. Even though my post received lukewarm response to many of my friends, this post has the most views on the blog to

Mental Health

Image
( Melting Away by Brigitte Johnston) A couple of weeks ago, I shared an article about a woman requesting a sick day from her job due to her having to deal with some form of mental illness. The head of the company informed the worker that she was proud of the employee to being responsible for taking the day for her mental health. Overall, this was a good article and showed that people are starting to become more aware of mental health. When I shared this article on Facebook, a gentleman disagreed with the article and claimed that that as an employer, if someone requested a sick day related to their mental health that he would place them on vacation time until he found their replacement for the job. This thread on my post continued further into how employees are seen as just machines that when they don't work, the get replaced. This is not fundamentally appropriate to say someone with a physical illness is fired, yet to the person on my post believed that due to someone not be

My Analysis on 13 Reasons Why pt.2

Welcome back. Before we begin this post contains major spoilers. This post is going to discuss the storytelling aspect and the message the show tries to send to the audience. Be sure to read pt.1 if you haven't seen it yet.  Pt 1. http://jacobgunter.blogspot.com/2017/04/my-analysis-on-13-reasons-why-pt1.html?view=classic The Story I feel that people didn't take the show as a tragedy. This is a form of the genre that I haven't seen in a while. We all love happy endings and I feel that sometimes we need to have a tragedy. Media is supposed to make use feel good and this show was supposed to pull us down to the reality of issues that we have every day. I think that this form of media is important to understand that we have more than just happy and that maybe we should go down those routes from time to time. I did not really think this was a tragedy until the scene between Hannah and Clay talking about the "what if" with her being with Clay. Sho

My Analysis on 13 Reasons Why pt.1

Disclaimer: This post is going to contain spoilers to the show. I suggest finish the show before reading this or if you don't have any interest in watching the show than welcome?...I guess. My facebook has been blowing up with all the people talking about the new show to hit Netflix know as 13 Reasons Why , a story about a boy named Clay Jensen finding cassette tapes from a girl at his high school named Hannah Baker who recently killed herself. On the tapes, Hannah gives 13 reasons why she committed suicide. The show depicts heavy topics such as suicide, bullying, stalking, lying, sexual assault, and other issues that young people deal with in this age. Now I will admit that this show was difficult to get through. I would constantly yell at the television due to the frustration I would have for some of the characters and dialogue in the show. This blog post is going to be me breaking down parts of the show and how I felt about character development, story, and the messag

Censorship

(Open Casket by Dana Schutz) The controversial topic of censorship has been around with people always having the argument of a piece of art, film, musical piece, and other forms of media. Mainly censorship is wanted for media being too sexual, crude, or violent, but rarely have I seen art wanting to be taken down due to the claims of racial injustice. Dana Schutz is a white American painter who painted the photo above depicting the open casket of Emmett Till, a 14-year-old boy in 1955 who was accused of whistling at a white woman in Mississipi. Emmett was kidnapped by the woman's husband and his half-brother and mutilated, such as gouging his eyes out, beating him, gunshot to the head, and other body mutilation. Emmett's body was found three days later in the Tallahatchie River where his body was tied to a cotton gin by barbed wire. The biggest controversy was when the killers were tried, they were found innocent even though all the jury was white which could be how they
